In order to register your Lasting Power of Attorney at the Office of the Public Guardian there is a fee to pay of £82.00 per document.
There are, however, exceptions available.
Depending on your circumstances you may be exempt from paying the fee entirely or be eligible for a 50% remission.
If you are in receipt of certain means tested benefits, like Income Support or Housing Benefit, you will be exempt from paying the Court fee.
If your annual income is less than £12,000 before tax you will be entitled to a remission of up to 50% of the fee.
You could also be eligible for a remission if you are in receipt of Universal Credit.
You will need to provide the Office of the Public Guardian with evidence of either your entitlement to a qualifying benefit or to show your level of income.
If you are not exempt from paying the Court fee or would be eligible for remission but paying the fees would cause you hardship, there are other options available.
